Let is take a pledge to eradicate child labor and give them back the childhood.

Don’t Deprive the Childhood

© 2010 Dr.P.Elayaraja

Little hands at work?

We make them panic stricken,

No wonder we all see

Kebabs in every chicken,

Let them go to school

And learn about the life,

Why do we pierce them?

With the greedy knife.

Children are children

Let them happily play

They are green crops

Don’t make them the hay.

    Nice poem!

It wont happen.. as long as people want products cheap, children will be forced into labor. Until a better wage is given to their parents, kids will be forced to work in third world countries.

A powerful message here! I agree that all children should go to school but I believe also to give them choirs, to teach them how to do things and learn the value of hard work.

I agree with you children must be sent to schools and not to work, but in many countries children are forced to work due to various reasons like population, not enough salary to maintain the family, illiteracy, etc. If these are taken care of, I\’m sure we can see a day where all children go to schools.

I agree with you 100 percent. Children should not work more than doing household chores and that type of work.

  • S A JOHNSON on Feb 23, 2010

Great message. Many people can have all the “buts” they want and “nevers” they want BUT that won’t change that it’s wrong or that we should strive to be better.

I too agree, it is terrible for anyone to take away their precious childhood. Good post, sad, but something for everyone to recognize.

This was a great poem about a serious topic. It really is a shame that children are being deprived of a carefree life.

  • Cynthia Cox on Feb 24, 2010

As sad as physical labor is to our children, nothing is more damaging than the mental abuse or control issues that parents or adults subject children to. It is a disturbing read that you have written but it brings awareness to the child abuse issues that do occur in our world. America is not an exception to this mistreatment of children either. Thank you for sharing such touching works.

This happens when parents need the extra income. It`s unfair to the child. Well written Dre.

These children were made to embrace the basic fact of life, “you don’t work, you don’t eat.” Nice thoughts.

  • Anne on Mar 30, 2010

    Nice share

  • Tina Cassello on Apr 6, 2010

Like Cynthia Cox said, we don’t have child labor here is America, but we push the children to learn work related skills too early and emphasize competitiveness over team spirit, even when we have kids playing team sports. My generation was the last one which was really able to enjoy being a child. Now all of that is being taken away from kids and replaced with constant activity designed to turn them into superstars and geniuses, even if the child isn’t capable of achieving such high standards and doesn’t want to make himself sick trying.
