About the fall of Icarus from the persona of his father Daedalus. Deals with need for disobedience and well moderation.
No escape my land or sea,
But King Minos could no hold me.
So I would escape by the air,
And do so with some flair.
Made some wings from feathers and wax.
Told my son to relax,
“These wings are my best design,
Just stay close and you’ll be fine.
But fly to close high or fly to low
And fall to the sea you will go”
Out the window we two flew
Across an ocean that was deep blue.
What a thrill it is to soar in the sky
I once thought only birds could fly,
Rising higher my son became exhilarated,
And his joy could not be sedated.
But he few to high and wax began to melt.
I will never forget the pain I felt,
When the feathers ran out,
And my son went to go swim with the trout.
