An old fantasy poem I wrote.

The dragon raised its dark and shiny head
Its eyes gleamed with power
A deep brightness that stabbed the night
Peering about looking for its maiden
She sits in her tree admiring the dragon
She stands and makes her sweet chirruping
He hears and turns his gaze upon her nude form
Its menacing gaze loses its hardness
As his eyes fall upon her
He comes to her
And she rubs his forehead with affection
Such a strange, but powerful love
Is found here between them
Beware to anyone that
Would lay upon this tree maiden
The dragons fury is as great
As his love for her
Her love is also just as fierce
For the terror that is there
It is beautiful to behold

The tree sprite reaches over
And plucks a fresh branch from her tree
Holding it tightly she climbs upon
Her dragon’s back to fly away
The wind whistles through her hair
As the great dragon shoots skyward
Higher and higher their love takes them
The speed and height makes the tree maiden’s
Heart race with fear and excitement
For the dragon this is nothing
His excitement is from her being so close

Upon reaching the clouds
The dragon spreads his wings
Taking in the moonlight
He gently skims the cloud tops
It’s like another world to her
She is like another world to him
But the branch she grabbed
Cannot live long after being plucked
Nor can she survive without its power
She pats the dragon to let him know
It’s time to go home
And down they plunge
Racing down faster than they rose
Gently landing her at her tree
She returns the branch
And heals it to its place
Then dragon and tree sprite
Lay down to sleep together
At the base of her tree

Greetings from that place where the emerald forests and the crashing sea come together. I think it may be time for two old friends to get back in touch with one another.

Hey there Milton, I like your story here; it must be an allegory about another love between two other lovers?! If not, even so, there is a special bond here shared that’s very touching. Thanks for sharing.

I love dragon and tree sprite stories. This poem combines the best of two worlds.
