An ekphrastic poem inspired by Pogo’s unfinished remix of the Wizard of Oz.

electronic non-acoustic
video clips and audio blips
crispy pictures whistling pitches
classic flick turned trip hop remix

gravity holds the girl at home or maybe magnetism
her positive feet clinging desperately to the negatively charged earth
at home there is no color only chickens and horses and stacks of hay
i watch as she looks up at the upper right hand corner of the screen
as if somewhere beyond her gray 2D reality
somewhere beyond the flat frame of the monitor
there is something more
her eyes are dreaming
i remember dreaming
her big glassy eyes dream in color
but her colorblind friend cannot grasp the concept
she leans back and sinks into a haystack of roses
chorus of light peeking through the clouds
her eyes transport her to a new world saturated in color
bloody shoes
sunny road
city of the sage
garish little people titter like chipmunks
they are too happy it hurts to look at them to hear them sing
but they are bearable in small doses
she makes some new friends
the grass man and the metal kettle they like to dance
and the coward all he does is laugh
and she
she sings a dance
she dances a dream
she dreams in technicolor

cyclic ekphrasis
flitting images fleeting this
is (dreaming) beautiful(ly unfinished)
reliving when if was yes
