Last moments as life is ebbing away.

Dragging my feet, trudging in the cold

Fell on my knees as I lost my hold

Like a flower that withers and fold

Never has youth felt so tired, so old

Fear and angst has taken over me

Oh where can I hide, I need to flee

I’m writhing in pain, can you not see

Falling, drowning deeply in the sea

I close my eyes, I no longer fight

No one has seen me, no one’s in sight

My one last hope in this dreary night

To see your face, my one ray of light

My heart beats with one more breath to heave

At life’s end, one thing left to believe

Just when everyone has gone to leave

There you were, the only one I need

  • Starpisces on Sep 13, 2010

with a cup of coffee and also feeling tired due to lack of sleep and after a day’s work, I reminded myself to read Brewed Coffee’s article to de-stress myself, and I really did, after reading this touching poem, I suddenly have the urge to write poem, but think only, don’t know what to write yet.
    :)
btw, as time passed by joining Triond, I’m beginning to talk in a poetic manner…

  • John Cornor on Sep 13, 2010

    Wonderful Piece

  • Brewed Coffee on Sep 13, 2010

Thank you all for your kind comments. Very encouraging. But I have to admit, I’m not really a gifted poet like some of you are. I just thought I’d give it a try. Once in a while, I just might pop in a poem or two.

Papaleng yung huli, naubusan na ko ng words na pwede i-rhyme.

Starpisces – true. nakakahawa ang mga poets. Finally rubbed a bit on me hehehe

Mysocalledlife – I’m afraid that’s just about it for now. Nosebleed eh hahaha!

Thanks again guys and gals for your wonderful comments

    $- so cool-$

  • ShaggysView on Sep 14, 2010

Awesome! I must say this reflects how we may want to give up, but we don’t…. cause we have hope…. hope is survival too many… we can get it from just one person that makes a difference… at least this is what I’ve gotten from it… poetry gives us individual meaning I guess, that’s the beauty… great write… thanks for sharing….

  • Tulan on Sep 14, 2010

    Lovely sentiments.

  • Brewed Coffee on Sep 14, 2010

Shaggy, you said it right. Poety does give different meanings, depending on the reader. Going through the comments above, the poem is sad, happy, poignant, wonderful, cute, intense, deep, sweet, etc. You saw hope and survival. I had a different thing in mind also. Some focus on forms and rhymes, some on the emotions.

That’s the beauty of poetry. It invokes unique interpretations. Enjoyed all your comments. Thank you once again.

  • Minister Marlene on Sep 15, 2010

  • Likha on Sep 16, 2010

Brewed, sis, huli na ba ako sa party? Ganda nito ah, your readers are raving about it. Poetry is also not my turf but you inspired me to try one, not now of course but when I get back. This reminded me of my late father, especially the last few hours before he breathed his last. Ay naku, bakit mo ba ako lagi pinapaiyak??

  • Brewed Coffee on Sep 16, 2010

Sorry to make you cry Likha. You are blessed you were there with your father as he breathed his last. That was my wish with my own father, to be there to hold his hand during his last moments. But he was far away…OFW eh. Sad but that is life.

I’ll wait for that poem you promised. I know you’re good at it

Friends, you inspire me. Thank you for being so encouraging.

  • MilMick on Sep 16, 2010

    I love the last part,
My heart beats with one more breath to heave
At life’s end, one thing left to believe
Just when everyone has gone to leave
There you were, the only one I need

  • LOVELYHONEY on Sep 22, 2010

    thy words steal my heart
    as i leave this world
    i’d hate to depart
    alas none shall know
    from where we came
    and whereto we go …

but the pain in the heart remains
and the strike of death leaves no remains
    except of brutal cruel laughter
we all are bubbles of energy
    once again there -after
    beautiful thy thoughts
    on departure.

Ang ganda naman! reminds me of my poems when I was in college kaso di ko pwedeng ipublish kasi most of them were written in our vernacular.

  • LOVELYHONEY on Oct 20, 2010

    such a beautiful poem
    all have read,
i’m sure your face by now
    must be all red

but the whole world is waiting
    for your thanks ,
    each one of us,
    including me ,
but you have yet to find time
    are you now composing
more such lovely poems for me
    i suppose so,
so that we all can share
and love to read you more
as we all for you do care.

Hmm.. meron ka na rin palang poem na nagawa I thought if i could was the first. Isa pa pala yun sa mga tulang nagustuhan ko. The last lines reminded me of a song pero di ko maalala ang title.

  • FX777222999 on Jan 25, 2011

A poem constructed beautifully by the author and very touching.

  • LadyElena on May 4, 2011

Aaawh… Lovely but sad poem. It was written a long time ago so I’m sure you are feeling more positive now.

May life treat you kind, Brewed.

  • Phoenix Montoya on Jun 28, 2011

Hindi ako maka log in sa Triond Brewed, pero ako ito, si Phoenix. Napakalungkot naman pala nitong tula mo. Straight from the heart but I like the ending, galing! O di ba nga, mawala na lahat wag lang ang ating itinatangi.
