When God allows us to go through trials, we can rely on His fountain of living water to sustain us in our difficulties.
His thought’s continuous waterfall,
That we may drink and drink it all.
Oh, drink whatever he will give;
Yea, drink abundantly and live!
For there can be no greater slight,
Than that we should not drink aright!
His cup to our parched lips is lift,
And shall we dare neglect his gift?
He gives his blessings by the score;
Shall we not take what is before?
But, no, we go in reckless haste,
Neglecting from His hand to taste!
Shall I not drink my cup of joy,
Lest some intrusion should annoy?
Oh, must I drink it on the sly,
Lest bitter soul should pass me by?
Nay, I will drink for all to see,
And drink with no apology,
And more than just its lesser part,
Full to the brim, my joy of heart!
Because men are too blind to see,
Shall I neglect his joy for me,
Purged as it is of bitter sands,
As filtered through his loving hands!
For, oh, the bitter water of life,
With trials and deep sorrows’ rife!
Changed in Cana in His time,
That we may drink the sweetest wine!
Ours to enjoy, delicious drought.
Shrink not from taking, to do without!
Plead Divine help over every test.
What’s given you now is for your best!
And when, alas, the lesson’s learned,
God’s gracious gift you’ve ceased to spurn.
Should others follow in your line,
Let them hold their goblet under thine!
