Simple things back then could bring a smile and have us all rushing to the car to pile in.

Popcorn in a brown grocery bag,
liter bottle of Coke,
everybody goes to the bathroom now, time to hit the road.
It’s family, night in to town,
goodbye to dirt roads for awhile,
heading to the drive in movie,
man those were good times!
Dad couldn’t resist those WhataBurgers,
we’d get a five dollar bag,
seems so long ago now,
so lucky with what we had.
Mom and Dad in the front seat, we’d giggle when they’d smooch.
They’d give us a mean stare and behind the seat we’d scoot.
Saw Tori Tori on that screen and many of John Wayne’s,
those old Drive Ins were big as life,
wish to be in one again.
I know how the complaining went and why they
finally shut down.
Guess it’s easier for kids to see what they shouldn’t see,
on tablets the carry around.
For one night, at least for us, we were big city bound,
in the back of that station wagon, all the happiness was found.
