My brother became an alcoholic at an incredibly young age. It was quite a roller coaster of emotions and this is what came of them when I felt the most pain from it.
You want to feel nothing,
You plead to feel numb,
You desperately search for that something,
When it’s nowhere to be found you feel dumb,
You take another drink,
Just to forget your mistakes,
And the further you sink,
The more compassion you forsake,
In the chaffing pain of awareness,
You watch positive energy escape your life,
And just for the sake of fairness,
The spasmodic ache cuts like a knife,
You can go ahead and drown,
Forget all the exhausting sorrow,
It’s an eruption without sound,
But only until tomorrow,
No need to face reality,
When your existence is so grand,
when the mask you wear is calamity,
now you are here, barely able to stand,
Walk tall you careless fool,
With that monkey gripping your back,
You have made yourself a mule,
To the empty shot glasses you rack.
