This is a poem about waking up thinking about a significant other.
It’s early and you’re on my mind.
I see your eyes, your lips, your face in my mind and I start to smile.
I know it’s early but your on my mind.
I slowly rise out of bed, wishing you were lying there, smiling at me when I look around.
I walk down the hall, and feel you trailing behind me.
Everything reminds me of you.
You’re new to me and I am so fascinated.
I ease open the bathroom door, wishing your were there grooming.
I glance in the mirror and see an image of you over my shoulder.
I know it’s early, but you’re on my mind.
As I wash my face, I feel it’s a new day.
I undress, looking over my shoulder as if you were there watching.
I feel you, even though you’re not even there, watching my every move.
In the shower, the warm water covers my back like you wrapped a warm blanket around me.
I find something to wear, that I think you would like.
Is it this, or maybe that? Hmmm.
I find something that reminds me of you.
I think of the last time I saw you, how I felt when I looked in your eyes.
The longing feeling to be with you, the real you and not my thoughts.
It’s still early, but you’re on my mind.
