This is my tribute to Medal of Honor winner Ed Freeman. Ed Passed away in August of 2008. He stood six foot four but was much taller than this in his deeds.

Ed Freeman came from the sky,

Where others were afraid to fly.

men on the ground would surely die,

Had Ed Freeman been a lesser guy.

Battle took place In the Ai Drang Valley,

First Calvary division in a shooting gallery.

Men lay wounded with all hope gone,

Ammo depleted in this bloody marathon.

The medivacs had been ordered not to land,

Not one would have if not for an exceptional man.

His helicopter was made without a gun,

No Red Cross or defenses put on.

This man he dropped from the sky,

Picking up wounded where they lie.

He dropped off ammo and did it again,

Water, ammo, and Medicine.

The wounded were loaded on his craft,

Flown to safety then he came back.

He would return 14 times that day,

30 wounded men would have passed away.

The landing zone was 200 meters from fire,

Enemy machine guns made the landing dire.

The men on the ground held their own,

They fought bravely this is known.

234 American soldiers in the jungle lie dead.

242 were wounded, 30 lived because of Ed.

They put a medal on his chest,

Remember him well he was America’s best.

A man worthy of honor and tribute. I read that he served in WWII, Korea and then in Vietnam where the event described took place. You have honored him well.

It takes exceptional courage and enormous personal character to do what Ed Freeman and so many men and women have done. An honourable tribute for Ed and those soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Good on ya Brad.
