A short, heroic verse poem on the subject of human lives, inspired by a rushed trip to university one day.
I’m flying high; above the lives of people
Ignored like shy ghosts, settling calmly
In some darkened, damp-rusted corner of forgotten
Joy. But looking down, it’s more the ground
Moving hell-bound and I’m just there…floating.
Everyone barges and marches by below,
Fighting to get wherever they need to be.
Funny, really. What type of free will
Slaves us to time and to crashing, long numbers?
So run, little demons, run your master’s wishes;
I’ll drift on by, through air thick from fumes
Of cars and dronish warbles, tickling waves
That drive the sound up and to my ears.
You’ll hail me, God-like, if only once
You’d take the time to watch the world around you.
If only once you’d live a slower pace.
I’m not cynical, just somewhat confused;
Blinded by personal luck, faith and joy.
Is it natural, natural to want the world,
That has its own morbid beat and rhythm,
To hear the song that echoes in me? Perhaps.
Is it almost fascist to feel the need to spread
My ideal thoughts and feelings across the breadth
Of this slavery? I’d like to think it not.
So hear me, Fell Creatures, for I am your redemption!
I break the din by dinning louder, spewing
Words from books I wrote to keep my feelings
Safe and out of harm’s desire and gluttony.
Like some ancient priest, I slowly turn pages
With dramatic arm movements and booming volume
The ground returns, the people stare as I
Still float above them, grasping hope from air
Then blowing it in a rain much like confetti.
My gospel states not all Good and promise,
It’s full of darkened corners, cold and lifeless,
But the Goddess is worth it. Paradise is lies;
The best thing to it is inside. Inside me
At least. The most beautiful thing is the simplest too;
She’s not aware of just the brilliance she brings.
