A poem about educated fools who lack common sense and compassion.
Educated Fool – By Susan Varo 11-15-06
I’ve walked among them
I did not attend their school
I’ve even worked with them
The educated fool
I’ve been set apart from them
I know this is no pretense
I have one accolade above them
I use my common sense
I have no dishonor towards them
I try often not to judge
I see them for who they are
I see they do not budge
I always try to listen
I try to see within
I called no one at anytime a fool
I know it is a sin
I see their points of view
I don’t think they care to see mine
I’m sure they’ll continue to succeed
But I will not be left behind
Many times they are above me
But I am different from the rest
Many times I have the answer
For their educated guess
I’m not rich like some who are educated
I know I will accumulate my wealth
I don’t want all that sickening counterfeit camaraderie
I know it will deprive my health
I don’t want the deliberate deceit
I don’t want the office chatter
I don’t want someone to give me grief
And then ask me what’s the matter
I don’t always want to be right
It would be like a weight upon my shoulder
I’d be a fool like an old fool
A young fool just getting older
I don’t want any bantering
Or someone’s unfair rule
I don’t want it even more
From an educated fool
