With aging, there is a decrease in the amount of muscle and connective tissue, including muscles, ligaments, and other tissues that support the bladder, uterus, vagina and anus. As a result, the affected organs can be loose or down (prolapse), sometimes causing distress or full in the pelvis, difficulty urinating, loss of control for urine or bowel movements (incontinence), or pain during sexual intercourse. Women who have many children may experience some problems.
