A poem in slam poetry form on electricity.
Electricity
Can you imagine a day without it?
A month?
Or even a year?
Power
It helps you do your homework
Entertain yourself
Even cook your food
Electricity
How could you ever live without it?
Without it you would stranded
Lost
Power
And yet for every person like us
There are ten, one hundred who live without it
Their entire lives
Electricity
Some say we are better off
Are we?
Are we better off living our lives in ignorance
Of what some people go through every day to make warm clothes for winter
To get warm food for dinner
Power
What would happen if we were suddenly
Cut
Off…
Forever
Mass hysteria
Pandemonium
The entire world in a panic
But no
Someone
Somewhere
A poor farmer
Blissfully unaware
Unaffected
Now I ask you
Are we better off?
