Elephants are in the rooms

Across the American landscape

Their presence is obvious

Characterized by large 

Prehensile trunks

Formed from their noses

Of the upper lips

They dominate their opponents

By sheer size, toughness 

And their trumpeting

That drive their opponents 

To run for cover

With five toes

Enormous flapping ears

The African elephants

With two finger-like projections

Ivory tusks

Have small roles to play

- – -

While the Indian elephants

With much smaller ears

Than their African counterparts

With ivory tusks exclusively

In the males

Are nonexistent in the party

- – -

The elephant is an emblem

It is the symbol

Of the Republican party

That offers elephant ears

Large flat sugary pastries

Resembling that of elephant ears

To all that will listen

And heed their cry

Republicans fire elephant guns

With loaded rhetoric

At their opponents

Those that use large caliber

To subdue big game

And accomplish their goals

They do not fool around

Using their massive trunks

Strength and tenacity

They endeavor to push
