Fifth chapter.

it & passed it over to Nolan.

He quickly filled the pipe

with green & held it towards me.

“I’ve never really used one of

those.. You go first?”

He shrugged. No complaints

here. & lit the pipe using his

lighter. I watched carefully (I’m

creepy) & tried to remember

everything he did, so I don’t

embarrass myself when it’s my

turn.

Thankfully I didn’t look like too

much of a retard. I placed the

tip to my lips & held the lighter

to the end with the weed in it.

I breathed it in hard & quick, which

turned out to be a bit of a mistake.

The smoke went quickly into my

lungs, making me explode in a

smokey cloud of coughing.

Nolan laughed, & put his hand

on my back, trying to help the

coughing. He always did this

when I was sick. If I had a cold,

& went into a coughing fit, he’d

always tap my back, trying to

calm it down.

I never told him, but it really

didn’t help at all.

Dizzy

Could be a good way

to describe being high

on marijuana.

But not dizzy in a bad way.

More like dizzy after you

get off a roller coaster.

You’re a little excited about

being dizzy. You twitch a little.

But that’s fun too.

I decided the best way to ride

this high would be to press my

face against the cold window.

How’s that window feeling?

Nolan jokes, poking at me.

I love it. The window & the poking.

“Oh, just great Noah.

Give it a try.”

He laughed, but didn’t try it out.

Is there anything on your mind Em?

You seem a little out of it.

I didn’t feel out of it

But I took this opportunity

to tell Nolan about the chat

me & my father had earlier

in the day.

Nolan didn’t hate Laurin,

but he sure didn’t disagree

with me when I spoke down

about her.

I’m sure it won’t last forever Em.

He said, turning to me, trying to

erase any doubt I might have

had in my my mind.

“You’re probably right Noah,

but what I’ve your not?

What if she never moves out?

What if they decide to get

married or something?”

Well that wouldn’t be a good

thing right? But at least you’ll

get to be in the bridal party.

“Ugh, you know I don’t really

like wearing dresses. They

always make me look horrible.”

Horrible? Never. Emily, you look

beautiful in anything you wear.

Beautiful. I had no idea what to

say to him, so I just turned towards

the window & smiled.

The School Called

Shortly before Nolan dropped

me off at home.

Thankfully the only

person home was still

passed out on the couch.

All I have to do is erase the

message off the machine,

& no one will have to know

I was truent.

I deleted the message

& headed straight to the

fridge. I was pretty hungry,

considering I skipped lunch.

Plus, I think I may have the

munchies.

After a quick snack,

I realized I needed to sleep,

& it needed to be soon.

I think this is what

they call burning out.

So I headed to my room

for a nice long nap.
