This is an actual email correspondence between my young daughter and me. She happens to be dyslexic and she was given a school assignment to write a poem. Instead of working on it herself (of which she is quite capable), she decided to ask me for help. I knew that she wanted me to write it for her, but I wouldn’t do that.

Imugration — that’s a word
I can see that you have heard
And know its meaning very well,
But seem to find it hard to spell.
The “i” is right, and so’s the “m,”
But this word has two each of them.
The “m’s” together, “i’s” apart,
And there you have a perfect start.
Sorry, the “u” doesn’t belong
And makes the spelling very wrong.
The rest is right, it rhymes with “nation.”
And there you have it — immigration.
Good luck with your poem.
Love,
Dad
