A quick poem recognizing the moments of joy brought on by a passing summer storm.

The sudden rain washed away

The oppressive heat of the afternoon

And the gentle breeze

Wafting through the open window

Drove the stale air from the room.

I stretched my lungs full

With the freshness of it all

And closed my eyes to better hear

The rolls of summer thunder

Burying all other sounds.

As quickly as it had come

It continued on its way

The leaves on the trees grew still

And the heat of a summer afternoon

Gradually built again.

‘The sudden storm lasts not three hours
The sharper the blast, the sooner ’tis past.’
Loved the physicalness of this poem.
