Dedicated to Johnnny Murtagh for being an amazing rider and Yeats the horse he steered to win the July Ascot Gold Cup and become only the second ever horse to win the Golden three years in succession. Both rider and horse deserve the highest of praise.

For Johnny Murtagh, the winning jockey
Horses are the most exquisite expression
Of humans descent from the animal Kingdom.
Yeats the Great -
The equine Irish poet,
He made a dare run -
pure poetry in motion
To jockey’s dream,
To bookies’grief,
To punters’stream
Of strong emotions.
Named after Yeats –
The Great eloquent,
He beat them easy
In silent conquest -
Making real history
In awesome manifest,
Reaching the Glory
Of triple Go(l)d Quest.

Am not a horse person but I still feel your enthusiasm here. Then again birds do little for me either. Like Hopkins with his “Windhover” you have stirred me with the race. P.
