Another Birth Poem. Part of my 100 poems in 100 days project.
I don’t know the sound
I made as I was breathed, pushed, and bled
into the wondrous, wide world
nine month layover inside someone else’s vagina.
completed.
I arrived to much fanfare
according to family lore:
policemen, firemen, truckers
descending on local Mobil
to make sure the soul who
was destined to inhabit this perpetually breaking
body she’d learn to love soon enough
would remain among the living,
