Eulogy to Sweet Angel Emily.

Little white face with a black beret
You had the ability to brighten our day.
Dainty and elegant, a moveable object of art
Your loving spirit found a home in our heart.
White and black, or black and white
God’s paintbrush created a masterpiece you were just right.
A sleek and fast jumper, quietly leaping on the bed.
Striding confidently up to the pillows to lay by our head.
Jumping up on us settling down on our legs
Roosting just like a chicken warming her eggs.
When you finally hunkered down for the night
Your nightly presence reassured us that all is right.
There were many mornings I would wake up in tears
Dreams with scenes that gave me great fears.
Yet when I called out your name, and held you tight
The sadness and scariness would disappear into the light.
You had your adventures during your 22 years.
Lost for 3 days in the forest preserve brought us to tears.
We kept calling and looking everywhere we could.
Suddenly your father looked down,
You were a mouser and hunter much to our dread
Bringing us gifts of mice and chipmunks with chewed off heads.
You were also a fastivious diva grooming your fur.
Satisfied with your beauty we would hear your sweet purr.
Climbing the cedar tree jumping on the roof onto the house
Finding Eric’s window you would meow and grouse.
The sleeping boy not hearing wasn’t trying to be mean
So you used your body to push it open and walk through the screen.
Charlie and Lily knew you were the matriarch of our place.
The respected your hierarchy and presence, your status and grace.
You lived a good life that knew only love.
Rest now sweet Emily, your spirit is now soaring above.
