This original poem formed itself in my mind one sleepless night.
Words flowed from my pen
Before the ink dried good
I had written another line
As ideas took shape and characters developed
As thoughts formed themselves in my mind
There staring at me
Was the poem I never intended to write
It must be understood
I did not write this poem
It wrote itself
As ideas formed in my head
As characters leaped forth
And thoughts jumped off the shelf
You must understand
I did not find this poem
It found me
And before the ink dried good
I had written another line
Ah, the power of the written word!
How marvelous
For those of us who know
How to convey a message
With just the right touch of class
For those of us who know
How to display a verse
In the best possible light
To convey our meaning
In the best possible way
How can I make you understand
How can I make you see
I did not find this poem, it found me
I did not write this poem
Instead, like all great poems
It wrote itself
