A poem about trying, in vain, to study.
Learning, my friend is easier said then done
you learn a whole chapter still don’t know page one
you look over at the threatening page
lying on the other end of the table
then gulp and try to read it,
but find you aren’t able
You stare for hours at a time,
at a simple, solitary line
your not really day dreaming
your just, just staring
and that’s your problem- nothing
you advance towards the paper
you turn it over
then flinch and turn it back
retreating
then you pare your pencil and look around for some meaning
a sign of inspiration : but all you find is failure
(effort left you long ago)
then five minutes before the test has ended
you find salvation
and frantically begin to write, the study notes you learnt last night
the bell chimes as if a toll of death
you drop your pencil
take a breath
you hand up the crumpled sheet
decorated with ink blots
not too neat
then look at the examiner with a cheesy smile
for you are safe….’til the test results arrive!!!
