Excess in general may prove counterproductive. On the other hand, moderation is key to a healthier life. We can alleviate tension and stress through patience and composure and by adhering to moderation in many ways.

There’s no need at all to run
When walking can be so much fun
And doing the things that must be done,
By trying not to speed and rush,
Feel the bristle of the brush
Of stress and tension far too much;
Switch back to where the path is clear,
Where softer scenes should reappear
In  calmer,  gentle atmosphere,
The wide and unrestricted field
Of moderation serves to yield
Much power no excess may wield,
For if we try to stay away
From troubles drawn up in array,
And hold, a firm, decisive sway
O’er measures thickly overlaid
With ostentation and parade
And roles of grandeur overplayed,
We may live longer, wiser, too,
And do the things we have to do
And to ourselves be kind and true.
