A poem about letting go of an artistic project. In my case, Nanowrimo ‘09.

Every November
I swear this is my year.
The icon for my website
certificate for waiting wall space
empty for 7 years
like an itch I never fully scratch.

11/1/09
strong start
1,104 words in the bank
by day 1 midnight
My suicidal, diabetic, triplet turned
singleton by tragic circumstance
is happily rolling off pen

11/6/09
Death of Internet connection
full stops already halted progress.
I switch horses…
Opt to have fictionalized me
apologize to a version of you.
Promise myself to mail it,
killing 2 proverbial birds
with single rock,
A phrase I know without
inquiring that you’ll depise.
Why do you always
find a way into my fiction
even, and this a rare enough occurrence,
I’ve banished you from daily thought patterns.

11/13/09
Finally,
after a hell of a week,
third idea sticks.
I will adultize a children’s favorite
Alexander and The Terrible, Horrible
No Good, Very Bad Day.

Main characters becomes female and gets wheels
because I know I always write better
wheelie women than walking men.
Poor girl…
Her troubles multiply
taking a fore night rather than day
to resolve themselves.
