Original Poem 2005
Describes an event in my life that occurred in the year 2005.
A month ago today,
I almost went away.
He sped around the curve,
And then lost his nerve.
Skidding out of control,
Trees made the truck fold.
Broken people carried off,
Sanity temporarily lost.
People rushing to and fro,
Mom begging me not to go.
I slipped in and out,
How many times I couldn’t count.
Into the ambulance I was loaded,
For once I didn’t feel so bold and
Courageous, I was helpless;
This was all such a mess.
I concentrated on staying awake,
Lucky the rescue wasn’t too late.
I lay still and quiet,
The pain–I couldn’t hide it.
My neck, back, shoulders, legs,
Will this night ever end?
Soon enough the end was near,
Wrapped in a blanket of fear.
A month ago today,
I almost went away.
When one is so close to losing it all,
You cherish everything, even the fall.
The luck, you see, was real and true.
I am living proof of this for you.
