This is a poem about self identity. The concept of feminism has such a taboo, but if we look closely, we will see that every one is a feminist. This poem tries to prove that if one advocates equality and empowerment of both genders, then one is a feminist.

In me.

There are a lot of things in me;

Like the beat of my heart,

The air in my lungs,

The pulse of my blood,

And the flow of my thoughts.

But the thoughts, the blood, the lungs, the heart

all calculate to the feminist in me.

I hear no thunder, I make one.

I see no lightning, I create one.

But I withhold something more powerful than mother nature,

That is,

Silence.

When I watch girls shedding their clothes for money, I watch in silence,

When I see a bruised woman following behind her husband, I watch in silence.

But when I stand up to speak, I create silence.

In that hushed silence do I create a roar,

In that hushed silence all is exposed.

Take a breath.

Focus on the beat of your heart,

The air in your lungs,

The pulse of your blood,

The flow of your thoughts.

Silence.

You have found the feminist in you.

You go girl. I suspect when you speak, I would listen.
