Happiness in couplets.

How quickly Happiness does flee,

when pursued forcefully!

Faster still will it abandon,

those who see it as random.

The most basic addiction,

sated only with fiction.

With each other do we share;

the ties that merely ensnare.

Innocent hearts lie in wait,

themselves the bait.

Exposing the barbs on Cupid’s shafts

tipped in fool’s gold fore and aft.

Lust doth he disperse,

like copper from a rich man’s purse.

Begging for a golden fool,

deception’s brittle tool.

Love has only once saved the Psyche,

and then only for display.

A lonely gilded shrine,

for the lately divine.

Daddy’s little girl,

send him forth with lightning to hurl.

Every fault is fix’d

with a blow to the eye’s twixt.

Send the blind god down,

where only the brave be found.
