Life seemed so easy and such fun when we were children.

I remember those distant childhood days.
They seem so very far away,
When life was simple and full of fun,
And we played outside all day.
*
I remember the table full of wet washing,
And the cheese on toast for tea.
The underground hut that we dug in the garden,
And our Sundays in Wales by the sea.

I remember going abroad on holidays
Though money was always quite tight.
We’d scrimp and scrape to save our fares
But we never had enough for a flight.
*
We bought a huge car to travel about in.
It was almost a rust bucket on wheels,
But it got us to where we wanted to go
And it proved to be a very good deal.
*
I remember my father’s great ideas
Which he dreamed would make us all rich.
He had so many mad-cap schemes in his head
But there always seemed to be a hitch.

I remember camping on a steep slope
And our tent suddenly started walking.
It looked so funny, as it toppled down the hill
And it set all the campers talking.
*
My dad built a house which was quite unique
With room for a much wanted pool
And though we dug and dug for two whole weeks
We only finished up with a deep hole.
*
So often I look back at the things that we did.
Our childhood days were never dull.
And thanks to the support from our Mum and Dad
We’ve led lives which were so rich and full.
