This is a poetic account of a long journey on the road in our car with my husband…

We started on a long sinuous trail in our car

On a winter morn with  the sun smiling benignly

And the winds caressing our cheeks with chilly fingers

To make them bloom in pink flushes like smiling lotuses in lakes

We were together and alone away from miling crowds

Wrapped together in the blanket of coveted solitude

In this bubble of privacy much yearned  we began our sojourn

The day a promise of pleasant cool weather

Munching on snacks with gulps of drinks we drove on

At a slow pace savouring a leisurely foray on a winter day

Soft music filled the air as I curled up in familiar embrace

The warmth seeping in to make me think of a shawl

I caressed his hair flying in the wind with gentle strokes

Sharing a few quick kisses on the desserted road

We talked about endless subjects and laughed in delight

Stopping at places to buy some food or drink

As the day flew by on wings of fleeting moments

And the twilight came with a twinge of loss

For our idyllic day was at an end, concluded

Yet the solace of a cherished memory etched on the heart

Remained as we shared a silent wistful smile…

    Nice imagery!

You know this reminds me of some words of wisdom I once heard: If you go on a long car ride with someone you’ll either come out of it best friends or worst enemies.

    Just random info…

Great closing lines. Your poem reminded me of journey’s with my partner up and down the country. The only difference is we have two children that make the journey a little more… eventful.
