Forbiddin Love: The only kind worth fighting for.

When I first saw you in your dungarees and newsboy hat,
Oh! I thought. Why I can’t just be like that,
Whistle a tune down the dusty road,
Alas! He could never be a part of my world.
My chauffeured ride soon drove on by,
Sending a dust cloud into his eye,
I saw him fall; we were out of sight,
I couldn’t help but cry myself to sleep that night.
The next day came, bringing the rain,
I ran to the road to find him again,
I’d seen where he fell, here under the bell,
I had dressed just like him, my family I could never tell.
I heard a voice, he stood there,
I couldn’t help but stand and stare,
“I know you,” he said, “your dust is in my eye.”
“Forgive me,” said I, “for you I cried last night.”
He pulled me in his arms, I held him close,
Taking in his scent, the smell of his clothes,
I heard my family all calling my name,
A copper came along and took my friend away.
I stood there stunned in disbelief,
“It’s alright my dear; he’s a well known thief.”
I turned to my mother and spat at her feet,
“You disregard my friend, so you’ll disregard me!”
I turned and ran in direction of the Police,
With one thing in mind; I’d assure his release,
But I was stopped short, for up ahead, there he was,
getting out the car shaking hands with the cop.
I jogged up gently saying, “Hey, what’s this?”
My friend just replied, “He’s my Uncle, young Miss.”
I couldn’t help but smile; my arms around his neck.
We kissed; people saw; gossip starts; what the heck!
I turned to see my family all stand gob-smacked,
They can think what they like, ‘cause I’m in love with a guy,
in his dungarees and soft cap.
I turned to my Love and kissed him with a grin,
I don’t want to be rich. I want you…that’s it!
