My wife was diagnosed with Alzheimers on March 23, 2011. For our anniversary on September 1, 2011, Iwrote this poem for her.

Forget me not when we are old and seem to have lost our way.
As we ponder in the sunset the coming night ahead.
Remember now the good times, forgetting not all the bad.
For they are far more precious in cementing what we had.
As we walk this road together, the two became as one.
One would oft’ be thinking before the other’s said.
Forgetting not the children that followed one by one.
Each one very special in their own most precious way.
All of life’s important to mold us in His hand
And make us fit for heaven and eternity ahead.
Forget me not in springtime when new life springs to view
The robins sing there welcome song the flowers show their blooms.
Forget me not in summer, the seems not to end,
And the cool refreshing feeling f lemonade and tea.
Forget me not in autumn, when the leaves do get their hue.
And the squirrels’ hidden treasures that wait beneath the lawn.
Forget me not in winter, when it’s cold and the snow grows deep,
As we snuggle by the fire, drinking chocolate and Peeps.
And when this life is over and one is left behind,
Forgetting not the promise to meet on the other side.
