Here is a song I wrote that combines thoughts on being adopted, feeling alone, and also the futility of war. It is called "Forgotten Man" and I finished writing this draft of the song earlier today.

They told me I was a quiet son,

Like to end what I’d begun,

I was always on the run,

From the things they left undone.

I was born on a warm spring day,

My mother she gave me away,

Never known just who I am,

A chosen boy, a forgotten man.

To the father who I never knew,

Guess there’s nothing more we can do,

To the mother who gave me away,

May we be together some day.

I left home at seventeen,

Wisest fool you’ve ever seen,

I have wandered aimlessly,

Running wild but never free.

They know me around certain parts,

From a bitter string of broken hearts,

I’ve tasted love but it won’t stay,

I just give it all away.

To the father who I never knew,

Guess there’s nothing more we can do,

To the mother who gave me away,

May we be together some day.

How the hell did I get here?

I will not see another year.

The sun beats down but I’m so cold,

Barely thirty-three years old.

The army sent me to this land,

Put boots on my feet a gun in my hand,

And here I’ll make my final stand,

My blood flows into the desert’s sand.

To the father who I never knew,

Guess there’s nothing more we can do,

To the mother who gave me away,

May we meet in Heaven someday.

To the father who I never knew,

Guess there’s nothing more we can do,

To the mother who gave me away,

May we meet in Heaven someday.

Good job: you can post audio if you ever decide to sing it.
    Thanks,
    Clay

Oh, thanks for the info Clay – I’m new to Triond and didn’t realize that. I do have this song set to music – I just need to record it! I should be able to do that this weekend – I’ll post the audio soon thereafter.
