Fragile heart.
FRAGILE
If I give this to you
Promise not to break it
When you hold it
Hold it close and never let go
It must stay warm all times
So that love will grow
If I give this to you
Don’t ever let it fall
Keep it clean at all times
Feed it with love daily
And remember to keep it safe
From harm
If I give this to you
Promise to show it love
It’s locked right now
But with this key
Only you can open it up
And be careful ‘cuz what’s inside
Not every man can withstand
There’s a powerful force
Within this gift
That you now hold in your hands
Twice it’s been open you know
One man opened it and the force was so strong
That he threw it to the floor
He ran so quick
That he forgot to fix the broken door
That’s that crack you see right there
And this on the back
I had to weld that shut
‘Cuz the first man damaged it
With an axe
Now it’s never been open since then
I’ve had it chained lock and key
And no one’s been able to get in
I have let others hold it from time to time
But they’ve never gotten the key
And still they’ve cried ‘Whatever’s in here,
It’s much too heavy for me.’
So you see
I need to know…
If I give this to you
What will you do?
‘Cuz this isn’t something
That can be fixed with tape or glue
If you scared of what’s inside
Do not take it
“cuz all you’ll do is put it aside
Or break it
If I give you this
You can’t squeeze it
You can’t throw it
You can’t take it out and show it
All I ask is that you love it
And if I give you this
You have to give me that
‘Cuz if you give me that
I’ll feel better giving you this
So before I gave him this
He gave me that
And said,
‘All that I ask for of this,
I must give to that.’
‘All that you ask of me,
You must do the same.’
‘Here I give you my key.
And I pray that it’s not in vain.’
That’s when he took my heart in his hands
And kisses it gently
And he held out his other to accept my key
So I gave him the key to my heart
And it’s funny ‘cuz all this time
His heart was much heavier than mine.
