In reply to a reply…

Och! sure Freddie was a poet of my City,

Although old in his years, to me we both

Had lots of things in common…

We you could say were kindred spirits,

Oh and like minded too

We never lost occasion if our eyes come een to een,

No matter the others company; always glad to meet…

So thus there were occasions, we ended the nights or day’s alone

We two huddled, in the shelter of  the corners,

                                     [ sipping amber dew]

Of a rain soaked night, or day…

Exchanging news, and strategies of writings ,rants, and lovers too…

‘ The very tastes of natures dew

Upon such lips a hidden treasures taste

Were speech is lost though not in vain,’

‘ Oh thankee greatly [a grin from cheek tae cheek ]

  beads o aspiration…

As the vary thought o my dear Darling deary? ‘

Say’s He  in a toast to his Amber deary O…

Yes he was a great wee fella wi the words,

He also had a very straight way of talking,

If he did not like you, he let you know.

He like me had a great dislike to…

Margaret Thatcher, the Tory leader then.

Also the rise of Tory Blair another fiend,

Yes behind the smile there was always

A grotesque face… that of a war monger

Oh! and Messrs Bushes, across the sea,

The later years, of Mr RAY Gun, and star wars

At home it was hurting us soar…

A really rich Country, living a very poor life,

Building a top of the range, Nuclear sub base!!

Right here on our shore don’t ask…

Don’t give a choice…

‘ You’ll bloody weel lump it ‘

Attitude did not go down well with us,

Freddie at this time…

Well ,in my book was the best wee ranter…

I knew… And! in all honesty

There were more than one, or two publicans.

We all would shun, until Fred was proved right…

‘ Some times folk can’t see past a pound note ‘

He told me once,

Again we know he was right,

We had sat 20 something years ago…

Warning of the foreboding, gloom if Tory Blair ever got in…

He wasn’t even Leader then, but the writing was on the wall,

The scourge of Privatising, Enterprising scandalising quangoising

These were the kind of things brought up most then and now

Sadly Fred is not here… in the physical sense but he is everywhere.

You and Freddie shared a great deal Matt. As you say, he is gone, but his words live on. I’m sure he’s nodding and smiling at yours. :-)

At least you saw through the false Prophets.
Blair and co fooled me at first, as they destroyed the working-class men of British Industry, Our Culture and Religion
sold by the spin doctors of New-Labour.So were are we now?
At least you can vote for an independent Scotland Mat.
Good Luck, but remember there’s devils abroad as well.
