Scotland is one of my favourite countries in the world.

Scotland was our holiday destination

As we boarded the train at our local station.

The journey, though long, held such a thrill,

Warming the heart on a day damp and chill.

We trundled along mid fields of green

Where rivers and streams were sights to be seen.

Towns and cities flew past at speed

And to the beauty of villages we had to concede.

Then north as factories passed us by

We remembered the smoke that once filled the sky.

It seems that at last they have found the solution

To freeing the air of smoke pollution.

Excitement grew at the thought of views

And all the wild heather with its glorious hues.

Soon we passed mountains, tops shrouded in mist

And calling to all travellers who cannot resist

Their rugged landscapes and snow capped tops

Viewed from a train which never stops.

A single piper stood high on a peak

His haunting melody to our hearts did speak.

Then over the summit and there lay the lochs

A breathtaking sight beneath all the rocks.

Eventually we reached our destination

And left the train at our holiday station.
