A recent article I read really made me think more about cleanliness.

Just a note to say I shall be away for the next few days but will catch up with your posts when I return.

On reading a post that appeared on my screen,

I found so many things in the home are unclean.

I felt myself shiver when I first viewed the list,

And found even after cleaning some germs still exist.

*

They land get on your toothbrush from flushing the loo.

There’s dirt on door handles which sticks just like glue.

Our computer keyboards on which we all write

Are covered with bacteria that is hidden from sight.

*

The kitchen sink is a dumping ground for grime,

Which multiplies a hundredfold each and every time

We wash up the dishes and then clean the floor.

Everywhere you look there germs galore.

*

You’d think that your bedding once washed was germ free

But those little bugs linger in all fresh laundry.

The mobile phone and the TV remote.

Its things which we handle on which germs do dote.

*

And those lovable pets who give such affection

Are covered with bugs which could pass on infection.

The car steering wheel, your coins and your keys

Were touched by your hands soon after you sneezed.

 *

This news could be worrying if you don’t take good care.

But there’s help on hand so don’t you despair.

Just wash your hands often and use common sense,

And regular cleaning is your best defence.

Common Sense – glad you mentioned that. You know without all those germs we wouldn’t have built up any anti-bodies :)

    very cute.
I think sometimes we worry to much about germs, in the olden days they didn’t bother about them and people were so much more healthier then than what they are today!

hope you have a lovely time.

Brilliant! My mom, pattiann, is a big fan of yours. I must admit I was surprised this would be a poem. I thought it would just tell us about germs. I am a big fan of yours two. It seems you can take any subject and make it into a great poem!

  • Pam Stushnoff on Oct 4, 2010

That was a fun poem. Its strange to think that those same germs help us build immunity and keep us healthy.

This is further proof that Christine can make a cute poem out of any topic! Germs! I am so glad that we can’t see them. I got an email awhile ago about Grandma’s apron and what she all used it for each day. Yikes!

  • Heather Dawn on Oct 4, 2010

I must tell you, when I first saw the title, I was skeptical that anyone could write a poem about germs of all things. Alas, your talent is abundant, and you have proven me wrong. Loved it.

I really enjoyed your poem. It really is scary to know that germs are all over your home. It really is important to wash your hands thoroughly and use hand sanitizer to keep from catching and spreading germs.

  • LoveDoctor on Oct 4, 2010

Lol, have only just found this one, Christine. If I ever need a laugh I know I can turn to you! You know, I believe some germs can be good for us as well, giving us immunity to bigger and nastier things.

  • Melody SJAL on Oct 10, 2010

    Your poetry really rocks, Christine.

  • J M Lennox on Oct 10, 2010

This is both excellent advice and a fabulous poem. I am an avid hand washer because of the knowledge of this. I also once read an article which brought my attention to how dirty womens handbags are. We place them anywhere and everywhere, on the ground, floors, public restrooms and then go and place them on kitchen tables etc in homes. Needless to say – I don’t anymore.

  • fishfry aka Elizabeth Figueroa on Oct 11, 2010

Oh.. Christine – I thought I was fussy. I notice everything you wrote here. I even use antibacterial wipes on food packets when I’m back from the supermarket and there is always a Sanitizer in my bag…. Nice and useful Poem.
