Christmas will be here soon and I can’t think of any greater gift to receive.
Love walks in – a long awaited visitor
Bearing an armload of packages
Gifts to me all beautifully wrapped
In brightly colored, shiny paper
Boxes of all shapes and sizes
My eyes light up – joy barely contained
As they are placed before me
Which to open first?
I choose a small yellow box
The color of sunshine
Inside a smile that lights up the room
The next one blue and brilliant as the summer sky
In it, hopes and dreams and plans for our future
There’s a pink one full of joy and happiness
The likes of which I haven’t seen
Since I was a giddy young girl
A purple box, the color of royalty
To remind me that I’ll always be your queen
Green to let me know we’ll be financially secure
Then a box of deepest red
Promises of pure unbridled passion
The last box seems as large as the room
It’s gold and tied with a huge red bow
I know its contents without looking inside
A package this big can only contain your heart
