MQM delegation led by its Parliamentary Leader Dr Farooq Sattar, Sunday, left the Prime Minister’s House with assurance from the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
that all their concerns would be duly addressed and the government would fulfil all the promises made with them.
Soon after the meeting with the MQM team, Prime Minister rang up Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and forbade him to give public statement against any coalition partner, particularly regarding the subject, which had created bad taste with MQM.
The MQM delegation headed by Dr Farooq Sattar, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, included Babar Khan Ghauri, Minister for Ports and Shipping, Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi, MNA, Adil Siddiqui, Provincial Minister Sindh and Raza Haroon, Minister for IT, Sindh. Sources aware of the deliberations of the meeting between the two sides informed The Nation that MQM delegation placed a plethora of complaints before Prime Minister Gilani regarding the mistreatment they were meted out in Sindh, particularly in the port city of Karachi, and the unmet promises made with MQM from time to time. Sources further informed that MQM delegation was annoyed over the statement of Zulfiqar Mirza and the harassment of their workers and leaders by the law enforcement agencies on the direction of Sindh Home Minister. Sources further said that Dr Farooq Sattar had also conveyed the message of the party Quaid Altaf Hussain to Prime Minister making it clear that if the government did not mend its ways, it would become difficult for MQM to stay part of the coalition. MQM delegation has also pointed out during the meeting that a number of promises made with them were yet to be fulfilled, particularly about their concerns on the fate and future of the Local Bodies in the province. Prime Minister Gilani has given them assurance on part of his government and party that all the promises made with them would be met to the satisfaction of the MQM leadership. He once again sought the help of MQM in getting the RGST passed from the Parliament while the MQM delegation had given their point of view and suggested that the government should go for imposing agriculture tax and adopt other ways and means to broaden the tax base of the country.
