A poem about the complexities of gender.
You wake up in the morning and your mind aches,
All you can think about is those pearly gates.
When will their be a time when it comes to you,
To be free of the lies, you’ve been living since you were two.
The times you cried in your bed all alone,
when you didn’t understand why you felt so low.
Dreams you had, in which you felt safe,
When no one could hurt you, and you felt no pain.
Then you grew up, but it never went away,
It just lay dormant, waiting for that day.GThe day you first dressed and found who you were
When the girl deep inside, came up for air.
And now as you look at the pathway ahead,
And you think about the life that you’d rather be dead.
You see it’s time to be honest and accept who you are,
You’re a girl in your mind, your body won’t be far.
