Let us not leave the next generation deprived of those heavenly luxuries pertaining to nature, which we once enjoyed for granted.

The incidence pertinent to this article

happened a long back in a rural

backdrop of Kerala, which is a

spectacularly green state in India.

This state is unique to a great extent

from the other states of India, mainly

for its geological serenity. One might

find the annual floods that wash the

region, a hazard; nevertheless, that is

all about that.

In those days, this state had not been

started being called – ‘The God’s Own

Country’, although it was really kind

of that then. Particularly for the

reason that it was a period when floods

were not as hostile as they are at

present. The people of the state were

not exposed to fatal endemics, such as

Chickunguniya, the Dengue Fever, the

Japanese Encephalitis and contageous

Meningitis that account for a great

number of human deaths today. The HIV

threat is not mentioned here

conveniently.

It, then was a region that enjoyed its

natural wealth to the hilt, with

nothing extreme about it. In those

days, one of the most thrilling outings

amongst youngsters was the exploration

of nature during the monsoons. As a

matter of fact, in the scorching summer

the water bodies of the region gets

dried up leaving the aquatic creatures

such as fish and amphibians chocking in

swampy little water holes. It is not

that easy as said, for them to come out

unscathed after the end of the torrid

episode.

In May, when the first drops of the

mango shower drizzles on the earth, the

fittest of the summer grilled fish and

amphibians, squeeze out of their

semi-solid earthern cells to the

profundity and freshness of the

heavenly downpour. Consequently, as the

fresh water torrents through roads and

gullies to finally empty into the

summer-dried water pits converting them

into puddles first, ponds then, and

eventually into an endless water mass,

the fish grabs the first opportunity to

swim the torrent upstream.
