Because Einstein once said “God doesn’t play dice” in response to Heisenberg’s interpretation of the uncertainty principle.

The day vanished
but the night hit you when you weren’t looking
no one makes a fool of you
another sideways look
your shotgun shell words
straight to my stone heart
ricochet pierced your thinking hat
half-hazardly or precisely you ask

No time to run
We must dance
the crippled pellets fly low
can’t you see
this isn’t about you or me
but our common identity

Jiggles and strokes
until it’s shredded whole
roll don’t play for gold
another roll of the dice
oh no, let’s not play God
don’t take that die
pinch it back to probabilities
aim for the eyes of blind statistics
Make a run for it, a fast step or two
because they fall like bricks
a skilled construction worker
paid too little for what he doesn’t do

Hear the beats changing?
Don’t let it get to your nugget
They’ll put it in the microwave
I won’t let them excite all your strains
I’m no good at white water rafting
Can you swim?
