Stunned into silence.

photo: The KD Peace Rose

The shaking began as he hung up,

involuntary tremors in his hands;

silently he sat counting slow,

trying hard to comprehend.

this feeling was so cold and soulless,

as he contemplated all it meant;

to offer up all he had promised,

amazed at how quickly it was spent.

Without regard for what he wanted,

the world had seemed to collapse in;

with numbing speed it had descended,

and he was dark and cold again.

The telephone sat simply mocking,

as he tried to calm his nerves;

not another call to tell him,

that he had mistaken those sad words.
