About what happened when a little girl asked God for a real live pony. One never knows where the answer to a prayer will take them.
A little girl knelt by her bedside to pray.
“God, please send me a pony, I want one today.”
A pony can trot and gallop and play.
A pony can stomp and snort and neigh.
We’d ride through green pastures so happy and free,
In sunlight and moonlight and close to the sea.
“I’d brush it, I would! And curry its coat.
I’d feed it some hay, but only one oat.”
God shook his head and furrowed his brow,
“A pony, my dear? And you want it right now?”
“A pony?” He said, “In this day and age,
What’s wrong with you girl, is your head in a haze?”
“Ponies, my dear, are not all that you think,
They’re wonderful creatures, but sometimes they stink!”
“Be certain you have a super large scoop.
Ponies, young lady, produce lots of poop.”
“I’m strong,” she replied. “I can handle the smell.
I know I can scoop poop ever so well.”
“Well OK,” God said, “If you still insist,
A pony for you I’ll put on my list.”
She ran to the barn and opened the door
To see her new pony poop on the floor.
She scrambled astride and kicked at its side
Hoping to get her very first ride.
It whirled and bucked her right off of its back
“BAD PONY!” she shouted, and gave it a whack.
With ears laid back and a frown on its face
The pony skedaddled right out of that place.
God sighed when he heard the little girl say,
“Thank you for sending that pony away!”
God drummed his fingers in rapid succession.
“This girl,” He decided, “Must learn a life lesson.”
He gave a loud whistle, no note did it lack
And the very next day, the PONYCAMEBACK!
