A child has gone missing.

He may have waited

until the lights were out,

there was no cry

and there was no shout,

insanity burned,

then the bed covers were turned,

there was no struggle,

as far as the police could tell,

but there was an odd,

sweaty, but sweet smell,

it was a peculiar body odor,

that lingered in the bedroom,

then the fear,

the doom, gloom,

she would not hear

any sounds,

no footprints to be found,

anywhere on the ground,

her child was not there,

her child was simply gone…

I canot even imagine how a mother feels. Once I lost my 3-year-old for about five minutes. She had a nightmare, and was too afraid to come into my very dark bedroom. so she hid under the dining room table. I was pretty close to panic before I found her. Just getting up in the middle of the night, and seeing her empty bed – oh, I can’t descibe how frightened I got. And that was five minutes, and she never left the house.

Great prose on what seems to be a recurring nightmare for so many these days. Florida really has a problem with missing children lately….unbelieveable these predators lurking among us. Great poem for a sad reality.
