She lay there dying, as if she was about to sleep, while I couldn’t control my emotion, as if part of me was dying, too. In an instant, I felt death was all around me, until …..

Goodbye, my precious, dear Mamma,

Goodbye, my precious part of me,

Death hovers now around your bed,

But is ashamed near you to be,

For it does not diminish you

Nor triumph in its victory,

Fear not its presence, dear Mamma,

Fear not what God has meant to be.

Your eyes are closed, oh, dear Mamma,

I’m here beside you, look at me,

While there is little time to spare,

There is still time for company.

No heavy bag nor baggage of

Your pain and sorrows be with you,

Only the one your soul shall bear -

Your tender love, so warm and true!

I see a shine across your face,

Which Death can never take away,

Nor touch before it must complete

Its fateful mission of the day.

Soon, must I choose that path that Love

Has paved for me so specially

That I may cross from time to time

In my domain of memory!

Goodbye, my precious, dear Mamma,

Goodbye, my sweet, dear part of me

Death may presume it conquered you,

But, oh, your soul is resting free!

I am in awe! Speechless. This is a very tender moving ode.
