Grace Extended
When Ruth comes to a place in life
Of total desparation,
She’s led to one who’ll make her wife,
And be her great salvation.
For she, in desparation’s led
To one who will deliver,
Will be their source of precious bread,
And be their one life-giver!
In poverty she’s led to wealth,
And day-by-day provision,
And surety for her family’s health,
When she gleaned by his decision!
For it was God Who knew He’d have
A kinsman there to be.
Thus God provided they’d be saved,
From their great poverty!
No longer hungry must they be.
No longer merely cope.
But faith directs where she should be,
And gives them cause to hope!
By faith her winding steps do come,
By hap to Boaz’ field,
Where she to glean may feel at home,
Upon its bounteous yield!
He brings her to a place, a man,
Who will descry her there.
And thus will carry out his plan,
To show her grace and care!
“Who is she?” he must know, and asks.
His servant the answer knows
And tells him of her awful past,
And how her present goes!
He hears confession of her need,
Her confidence in God.
Who knew just where her steps would lead,
As on her way she trod!
“She came here ere the morning broke,
And stayed here all the day,
Full knowing what the lawgiver spoke,
And following in that way!”
The first thing now that Boaz does,
Is give her a command.
“To other fields do not go,
But gather of my land!
And I will covenant with thee,
If thou be pleased to dwell,
That thou forever safe shall be,
And drink from out my well!”
Then Ruth she fell upon her face,
And said to Boaz there,
“How is it I have found thy grace?
For I’m a stranger here!”
But Boaz knows about her trials.
The things that she’s been through.
And all the many tedious miles,
That brought her hitherto!
He knows how she has left her land,
Her family and her home.
And everything she had at hand,
With Naomi thus to come.
She’s given up most everything,
To care for her he must.
God will use him to be His wings,
In whom she’s come to trust!
And she will be to his delight,
She who had once been cursed.
For another life too had mark of blight,
The mother who him had nursed!
And so he sat and gave her corn,
That she thereon may feed.
No longer she her past will mourn,
For he will meet her need!
Then she would rise to take her leave,
And go to her home place.
“Oh, let her glean among the sheaves.
Drop handfuls by my grace!
Then she returned her homeward way.
“Who, daughter, hast thee befriended?
Sit still, till he shall have his say.
His grace has been extended!”
