About grieving and remembering the people we lost to soon.
How do I say goodbye to a man I never knew
How do I reminisce about his laugh, and his smile?
What do I say when everyone shares stories
About the time he did this, and that, and do you remember when?
And all I can do is sit and smile
Nod along and laugh like I have a clue
About what this man was really like
He was my grandfather
But I didn’t know him very well
For that I will always be sorry
Because I know that I have missed out on something great
I know this because I can see the way he resonates in your hearts
I can see the smile on a person’s face when they talk about him
And the tears in their eyes when they realize it’s the first smile they’ve shared without him
He is a man who you know
He is a husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother, a friend
Who has been by your side through the ups, and the downs,
And the general sideways moments of life
And with every story you tell and every memory you’ve made
And every time you say his name, he lives a little longer in you heart
