A poem about a desert in the southwest.

Pink and yellow butterfly bush

smiling under the sunny sky

over the green desert

keeps alive the insects that drink

the sweet nectar.

Night blooming cereus entertains

two moths dancing around the petals

before they disappear past a tiki light

standing in front of a Saguaro cactus.

Not a sound was heard

once every light in the distant city went out.

All that remained shining was

the desert hackberry gently swaying

under the full moon.
