This is dedicated to retired, ice hockey player, Jeff O’Neill. He started out as a Hartford Whaler. When the team moved to North Carolina and the team was renamed, he became a Carlina Hurricane. The green was the color of the Whalers. The red is for the Hurricanes. This was written when he was trying to go back with the Canes.
He started playing up North,
Great games he has brought forth,
Each season continuing to grow,
Constantly scoring against the foe.
Starting his career as a whale,
See him play hard not to fail,
Now even stronger as a hurricane,
Watch as he uses his hockey brain.
Succeeding in a hat trick here,
The opposition has had to fear,
For scoring is what he does best,
This important skill he has possessed.
Trying hard during runs for the cup,
All the while never giving up,
Even after a puck hit the eye,
Listen hard for the battle cry.
